Richard E Grant re-opens Oakley Hall
Oakley Hall Hotel, Oakley,
Basingstoke.
Oakley Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian manor house with a Victorian wing set in 300 acres of parkland which include various buildings comprising Gate Houses, Model Farm, listed Walled garden. The house was used as a private school for the fifty years up to 1993, and over this period had suffered from neglect and a general lack of maintenance. The estates buildings had in general slipped into disrepair and dereliction.
The hall was recently reopened by Richard E Grant following successful completion of the first phase of renovation. See this article in the Basingstoke Gazette for coverage of the opening.
The commission was to carry out a comprehensive redevelopment for the new owner who amongst many roles owns and runs nursing homes, and builds & develops land. The development comprised the restoration and conversion of the Hall into a 60 bed nursing home, which has been completed. Stromtechs undertook the whole electrical design & installation for the refurbishment of the old nursing home to provide hotel bedrooms, restaurant, bar and garden suite.
The comprehensive scheme to provide an EMI (Elderly Mental Infirm) unit as a separate building within the grounds, the conversion of the model farm buildings into a leisure complex, the conversion of the walled garden into a nursery and garden centre and the conversion of stable buildings and yard into a retail and restaurant complex have recently received planning permission. The project has developed further with proposals to provide an hotel and conference centre within the grounds and existing buildings
